SIKESTON, Mo. -- James L. Barber, 53, of Sikeston died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1948, at Charter Oak, Mo., son of Louis H. and Juanita Peppers Barber.

Barber lived at Gray Ridge, Mo., most of his life, moving to Sikeston four years ago.

He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and received a Silver Star.

Survivors include a son, James Miller of Conway, Mo.; a daughter, Jennifer Helms of Sikeston; his mother of Essex, Mo.; two sisters, Carolyn Wasbutsky of Sikeston, Sharon Benthal of Portageville, Mo.; and a friend, Pam Williams of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo., from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Vent officiating. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery with full military honors.
