WETAUG, Ill. -- James A. Stamp Jr., 70, of Wetaug, and formerly of Murphysboro, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998 at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1928, at Grand Tower, son of James A. Sr. and Fannie May Gulley Stamp.
He married Karol Martin on July 22, 1983.
He was a member of the Wetaug Church of Christ. He was the band leader of Jim's Jams. He had worked at power companies in Grand Tower, Murphysboro and Metropolis. He was a veteran of the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pat Williams of Tucson, Ariz., and Judy Johnson of Robinson; three stepsons, Eddie Gene Mudd of Hammond, Ind., and Santana Chavez and Joe Chavez of Los Lunas, N.M., three stepdaughters, Debbie Sawaski of Laporte, Ind., and Jane Yslas and Rose Laughlin, both of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Maude Worthen of Murphysboro and Sharon Wright of Hutsonville; two brothers, Donald Stamp of Arlington, Texas, and Zeldon Stamp of Vance, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Ronnie Gulley officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower.
