Jackie Franklin Coomer, son of Albert "Pooch" and Laura Williams Coomer, was born July 11, 1944, in Oran, Missouri. Sadly, he passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the age of 79, doing what he loved to do -- coon hunting.
Jackie was a proud member of the Baptist faith and a retired U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He served his country with pride and was stationed in Germany for three tours, where he worked as a cook and received numerous awards for his culinary skills. Jackie was always ready to cook for any occasion, and his food was highly regarded.
In addition to his military service, Jackie was also a renowned coon hunter, actively participating in several hunting clubs.
He resided in Whitewater and had a strong passion for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He eagerly followed their games, especially when they were winning.
Jackie married Anita Raye Daust on Aug. 17, 1967. Sadly, she passed away Aug. 21, 2018.
Jackie is survived by his four sons, Chuck (Pam) Coomer of Doniphan, Missouri, Jeff Coomer of Dallas, Jack D. (Penny) Coomer of Delta and David (Tanya) Coomer of Whitewater. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian Coomer, Jaclyn Childers, Amanda O'Neill, Grant Coomer, Brooke Coomer and Ciara Coomer; and four great-grandchildren and one on the way, Emma.
In addition to his wife, Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Laura Coomer; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Joe Coomer; three sisters, Margie Strange, Ada Croy and Edna Holt; and a great-granddaughter, Charli Childers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, Missouri.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Hugo Walka. Following the service, Jackie will be laid to rest at noon at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. The burial will include full military honors, paying tribute to his dedicated service.
