EAST PRAIRIE -- Jack Stallings, 78, of Crystal City, formerly of East Prairie, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1993 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus. He was born Feb. 7, 1914 in Mississippi County, the son of James Albert and Rosie Grant Stallings. He had lived in the St. Louis area since 1942, moving from East Prairie. He was employed by the John I. Hay Barge Co. as a terminal superintendent, retiring in 1966. He then owned and operated his own trucking company for 20 years...

EAST PRAIRIE -- Jack Stallings, 78, of Crystal City, formerly of East Prairie, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1993 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Festus.

He was born Feb. 7, 1914 in Mississippi County, the son of James Albert and Rosie Grant Stallings.

He had lived in the St. Louis area since 1942, moving from East Prairie. He was employed by the John I. Hay Barge Co. as a terminal superintendent, retiring in 1966. He then owned and operated his own trucking company for 20 years.

On Feb. 24, 1937 in Charleston, he married Alice Moore. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, James W. Stallings, DeSoto; two brothers, W.C. Stallings, East Prairie, Walter Stallings, Sikeston; one sister, Ruth Williams, Sikeston; two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of the First Church of God of East Prairie, officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near Charleston.
