Jack Vernon Kirkland, 83, of Dallas, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at his home.

He was born April 20, 1923, at Waco, Texas. He and Jane Smith were married.

Kirkland graduated from Waco High School and went to Washington, D.C., to work for the FBI. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then graduated from Baylor University and moved to Dallas to pursue a career in insurance and, later, furniture wholesale. Kirkland was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, the 2X2 Class, the Administrative Board and the Parent Council.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shelley Mills and Lisa Grady; a sister, Joyce Seesing of Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Highland Park United Methodist Church main sanctuary in Dallas.
