Brown, 80, died Monday, Oct. 17, 1994, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1914, in Jonesboro, Ill., son of James and Sarah Gunter Brown. He and Joy Wolpers were married Oct. 6, 1945, in Piggott, Ark.

Brown was a letter carrier with the Cape Girardeau Post Office 38 years, retiring in January 1979.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, National Association of Letter Carriers, past noble grand of IOOF Lodge 678, and former master of Encampment.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rodger Brown of Cape Girardeau, Thomas Brown of Grand Island, Neb., James Brown of Gainesville, Ga.; two daughters, Penny Hurst of Cape Girardeau, Carole Richards of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Lloyd Brown of Louisville, Ky., Herbert Brown of Springfield; three sisters, Flora Robinson of Black, Frances Rathert of Fenton, Shirley Rees of Bradenton, Fla.; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
