BENTON, Mo. -- Irene Agnes Elfrink, 75, of Benton died Friday, May 24, 2013, at her daughter's home in Benton.
She was born July 21, 1937, in Benton, the daughter of Adam Eugene and Lorena Christine Scherer LeGrand. She married Norbert Herman Elfrink on June 30, 1954, in Benton.
In her early years, Irene spent two years in a Mother House in Joliet, Ill., to explore the vocation of religious life. She worked as a cook at the Rainbow Drive-In in Scott City and the St. Denis convent and did in-home baby-sitting. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and its St. Anne's Sodality.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Carla (Jim) Nall, Diane Perdue and Beverly Gean, all of Benton; a daughter-in-law Jo Beth Elfrink of Hollister, Mo.; five brothers, A.J. "Tony" LeGrand, Monroe LeGrand and Walter LeGrand, all of Benton, Ralph V. LeGrand of Cape Girardeau and David LeGrand of Jackson; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Elfrink; a daughter, Deborah Wilfawn; two brothers; and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
