Irene E. Eggimann, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Gordonville to Fred G. and Ida S. Gluckshertz Nischwitz. Irene E. Eggimann, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Gordonville to Fred G. and Ida S. Gluckshertz Nischwitz. Irene and John W. Eggimann were married Nov. 5, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville. He preceded her in death Feb. 27, 2011.

Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Trinity Ladies Aid.

She worked for Bell Telephone in her early years. Irene was an Exchangette and volunteered at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader and volunteer for the Otahki Girl Scout Council for many years.

Survivors include her son, Brad L. (Shari) Eggimann of Cape Girardeau; sisters-in-law, Ruth Nischwitz of Gordonville and Carolyn Francis; three grandchildren, Ty (Kathyrn) Eggimann of O'Fallon, Missouri, Kylie (Floyd) Scholz of Altenburg, Missouri, and Jamie Ware of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandsons; and many beloved nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jayne Ware; brother, Harvey Nischwitz; and sisters, Eleanor Jones and Leona Keller.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Daniel Maske officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
