MARBLE HILL, Mo. — Ira William Newman, 78, of Marble Hill died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at his home.
He was born May 19, 1930, in Peach Orchard, Ark., son of Roy and Leona Neva Nelson Newman. He and Roberta Blanche Lewis were married June 6, 1950, in Sparta, Ill.
Newman retired in 1983 from Lectro Motors in Hazelwood, Mo. He attended First Baptist Church in Marble Hill and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 35.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Newman of Warrenton, Mo.; a daughter, Dian Bayless of St. Peters, Mo.; two brothers, Art Newman of Cold Camp, Mo., Don Newman of Lincoln, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Overstreet of Jacksonville, Ill.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
