THEBES, Ill. -- Ira Loyd Honey, 90, of Thebes died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 12, 1910, near Thebes, son of Edward Cornelius and Minnie Mae Pence Honey. He and Minnie Ellen Watson were married July 24, 1941. She died Oct. 17, 1996...

THEBES, Ill. -- Ira Loyd Honey, 90, of Thebes died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 12, 1910, near Thebes, son of Edward Cornelius and Minnie Mae Pence Honey. He and Minnie Ellen Watson were married July 24, 1941. She died Oct. 17, 1996.

Honey retired after 33 years as a marine engineer with Federal Barge Lines. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was a Bronze Star recipient.

Honey and his wife were well known for the gem store jewelry they crafted and sold.

Survivors include two daughters, Vella Sue Friedman of Tamms, Ill., and Kimberly Hornback of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Velma Miller of Thebes and Anna Mae Ragno of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and two brothers.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Carl Fisher will officiate, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.
