Iola Amelunke, 87, of Whitewater died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Scott City to Kergious and Ella Mae Seabaugh Crites. She and Melvin C. Amelunke were married May 9, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.

Iola was a member of New Mckendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary.

Iola was a homemaker most of her life. She was a seamstress for Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee, Missouri, and Cape Girardeau. In 1988, she retired after years of truck driving alongside her husband. She was a loved wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin C. Amelunke of Whitewater; three daughters, Sandra (Robert) Levan of Henderson, Nevada, Carolyn (Virgil) Schreckenberg of Whitewater and Donna (Rick) Martin of Burfordville; five sons, Michael M. (Nancy) Amelunke of Columbia, Missouri, Ronald G. Amelunke of Cape Girardeau, Steven L. (Kim) Amelunke of Whitewater, Wesley D. (Diane) Amelunke of Chaffee and Gary W. (Andy) Amelunke of Fort Myers, Florida; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary.
