Inger Lise Christensen Thomsen, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Southeast Hospital. She was born July 17, 1945, in Aalborg, Denmark, to Aage and Linda Kristensen Glad. She moved to the United States in 1974. She resided in New Jersey, North Carolina and Louisiana and had been a 27-year resident of Cape Girardeau. She and Thomas Carl Thomsen were married in Aalborg on July 15, 1962...

Inger Lise Christensen Thomsen, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born July 17, 1945, in Aalborg, Denmark, to Aage and Linda Kristensen Glad. She moved to the United States in 1974. She resided in New Jersey, North Carolina and Louisiana and had been a 27-year resident of Cape Girardeau. She and Thomas Carl Thomsen were married in Aalborg on July 15, 1962.

She was a world-renowned lacemaker who shared her talents as an instructor and curator of bobbin lace with students from across the U.S. and internationally. Inger Lise's passion was to preserve the art of lace making while ensuring its progress into the 21st century and beyond. She was a founding member of the Heartland Lace Guild whose mission is to promote interest in and preserve the art of lace making for posterity. Inger Lise spent thousands of hours practicing, designing, teaching and presenting the art of lace making.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Thomsen of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Tonni Steinmeier; two daughters, Helle Thomsen and Lotte Thomsen Delaney; a son-in-law, Adrian Delaney Sr.; and three grandchildren, Christian Baierwalter, Terrance Baierwalter and Victoria Farmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Ritha Olsen, Ketty Christensen and Karna Glad.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1900 Cape LaCroix Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the International Organization of Lace.
