MATTHEWS -- Imogene Caldwell, 75, of Matthews, formerly of East Prairie, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at her home after an extended illness.

She was born May 18, 1922 at Blytheville, Ark., daughter of Charlie and Lily Evans Fisher.

She has lived most of her life in East Prairie, moving to Matthews three years ago. She was Baptist.

In 1954, she married George C. Caldwell at Grand Rapids, Mich. He preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1970.

She is survived by six sons, Bill Skelton of Matthews, Charles Skelton of East Prairie, Stanley Skelton of Sikeston, Vernon Skelton of O'Fallon, Clyde and Thomas Caldwell, both of Union; eight daughters, Mary Skelton of Matthews, Martha Lee, Sally Skelton and Shirley Smith of East Prairie, Paulette Gifford of Roxanna, Ill., Alice Skelton of O'Fallon, Brenda Eldridge of Gosnell, Ark., and Barbara Amick of Matthews; one brother, Elmer Raymond of Bernie; 32 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons and one brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today, Sunday, at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Shelby Chapel with Thomas Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
