MARQUAND, Mo. -- Hugh Lambert Woods, 87, of Marquand died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Madison Memorial Hospital in Fredericktown, Mo.
He was born Aug. 20, 1917, at Hunter, Mo., son of Otto and May Lambert Woods. He and Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Upchurch were married Feb. 15, 1942.
Woods was raised in Bollinger County, Mo. He was a pilot instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He and his brother established Woods Lumber Co. in Portageville, Mo., and he later was sole owner of the company until retiring in 1982.
Woods was a member and former deacon at First Baptist Church in Fredericktown.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judith Trittler of Kirkwood, Mo.; a son, Richard Woods of New Zealand; three sisters, Dean Peters of Portageville, LaVerne Upchurch of Glenallen, Mo., Ruth Chenoweth of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown. Burial will be in Bollinger County Memorial Park at Marble Hill, Mo.
