PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Hubert A. Winkler, 94, of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Independence Care Center of Perry County.
He was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Apple Creek, Missouri, son of Theodore Xavier and Louise Ponder Winkler. He and Cornelia Buchheit were married May 28, 1949. She preceded him in death June 11, 2012.
He was partner of Winkler & Winkler Interior/Exterior Decorating. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and was an usher for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 133 and VFW Post 4282 in Perryville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include two daughters and three sons, Diane (William) Cooksey of Northglenn, Colorado, Craig Winkler (Kathy Naeger), Larry (Brenda) Winkler and Denise (Duane) Brewer, all of Perryville, and Christopher Winkler of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren, Chelsea Cooksey, Christina (Michael Anderson) Cooksey, Billy (Adrienne) Cooksey, Jaime (David) Craig, Cyle (Tiffany) Winkler, Andrew Hayden, Eric Winkler, Jessica (Steve) Caddell, Cory Layton, Grant (Kasey) Brewer, Sean Brewer, Emma Winkler, Aiden Winkler, Brynn Winkler and Tate Winkler; and 12 great-grandchildren, Busy Anderson, Roark Anderson, Hart Cooksey Anderson, Calla Cooksey, Bennett Cooksey, Sebastian Winkler, Gavin Craig, Annaliese Craig, Bayley Winkler, Maddison Walker, Aleah Caddell and Owen Caddell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Ronnie; two sisters, Bertha Mohr and Alma Wibbenmeyer; and eight brothers, Charles, William, Leo, Wilfred, Tommy, Cletus, Wally and Eugene Winkler.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., with rosary at 8:30 a.m., Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.
He then will be taken to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.
