OAK RIDGE -- Funeral for Hubert W. Slinkard of Oak Ridge will be held at 10 a.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. The Revs. Grant F.C. Gillard and Ronnie Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Friend Cemetery at Oran.
Slinkard, 86, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.
He was born Feb. 17, 1913, at Randles, son of James W. and Elizabeth Coomer Slinkard. He first married Evelyn Mobley Aug. 15, 1936. She died Oct. 13, 1979. He later married Anita "Becky" Spates Feb. 2, 1980.
Slinkard retired in 1979 as a brakeman with Cotton Belt Railroad Co. in Scott City. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and UTU Local 0330.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jeryl Slinkard of Randles, Charles Slinkard of New Orleans, La., Gerry Slinkard of Chaffee, Paul "David" Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; and a stepdaughter, Janice Moyers of Oak Ridge.
Also surviving are four brothers, Eugene and Ernest Slinkard of Oak Ridge, W.T. "Bill" Slinkard of Scott City, Jake Slinkard of Kansas City; two sisters, Ruby Brown of Jackson, Betty Nesbit of Chilhowee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and seven great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
