Howard Spicer

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Howard Samuel Spicer, 89, of Chaffee died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 21, 1918, in Birmingham, Mich., son of Howard William and Flossie Elizabeth Render Spicer. He and Marie Dirnberger Martin were married April 21, 1991. She died March 22, 2004.

Spicer was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, VFW Post 3127, American Legion Post 389, Elks Lodge 1810, all in Chaffee, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16 in Cape Girardeau.

He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.

Survivors include two daughters in Chicago; a sister, Betty Edwards of Sessor, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with VFW members officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with military honors provided by Missouri Honors Program.
