Howard Richard Penrod, 74, of Ft. Worth, Texas, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 17, 1931, at Neelys Landing, son of Clinton and Hannah Josephine Pinkerton Penrod. He and Catherine L. Griffin were married Jan. 15, 1954. She died Feb. 1, 2002.
Mr. Penrod was a barber 30 years at Fulton State Hospital, retiring in the early 1990s. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church at Pocahontas, and a lifetime member of Fulton VFW Post 2657.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat (David) Volkening of Ft. Worth; two brothers, Harry Penrod of Everett, Wash., Roy Penrod of Jackson; a sister, Ola Rea Bollinger of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Penrod of Cape Girardeau, and Kathryn Penrod of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis, Clinton, Glenn and Earless, and two sisters, Zola and Lucille.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Sunday at New Bethel Church from 1 p.m. until time of service.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. John Rhodes officiating. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton, with full military rites by VFW Post 2657.
