FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Howard Edwin Greer, 80, of Fairview Heights died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, at Bessville, Mo., son of Tony C. and Dora Myers Greer. He married Gail James.
He was the owner of Greer's IGA Foodliner in Marble Hill, Mo., before moving to Florida in 1978. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of Trowel Lodge 440 in Marble Hill and a 32nd Degree Mason. A lifelong Methodist, Greer was a member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Hill and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Fla.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mary Frerker of Carlyle, Ill., Debby Binford of Melbourne, Fla., and Cathi Greer of Lahaina, Hawaii; two sisters, Odetta Trousdale of Desoto, Mo., Rita Fernow of St. Louis; one brother, Dean Greer of Pevely, Mo.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Friends may call at Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday. Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle with Steven Goodin officiating. Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery.
