Homer Turner Jr., 85, of Millersville passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Jackson, son of Homer Lowell and Nora Victoria Statler Turner. He and Frances M. Holloway were married Dec. 22, 1946. She preceded him in death Nov. 29, 2008.
Homer graduated from Oak Ridge High School.
He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from Jan. 4, 1945, until Sept. 23, 1946.
Homer worked for the former Marquette Cement Co. in Cape Girardeau, the former Alpha Concrete Co. and the former Portland Concrete Co. in St. Louis, Southeast Missouri State University, and most recently the Cape Girardeau School District. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was currently a member of Sedgewickville Lutheran Church, VFW Post 3838 and a life member of American Legion Post 63, both in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include three sons, Stanley (Brenda) Turner of Millersville, Dennis (Gigi) Turner of Cape Girardeau and Steve (Pat) Turner of Exton, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. A VFW service will be held at 7 p.m.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Sedgewickville Cemetery, with full military honors.
