Hildegarde Louise Youker Bader, 95, of Cape Girardeau was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Dolgeville, N.Y., daughter of the late Fancher Lee and Ann Horrocks Youker. She was a descendant of the prominent Horrocks family of Herkimer, N.Y.
She was educated in the Dolgeville Public Schools and was graduated from New York State Institute of Teaching in 1933. She taught in rural schools in Central New York State and Southeast Missouri, and resided in Caruthersville, Mo., before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1947.
Hildegarde's early employment was with Boy Scouts of America and the United States Army and Air Force. In 1954 she began her career in radio and television with Hirsch Broadcast Co. She retired in 1998 after 44 years as program and public affairs coordinator. The board room on the third floor of the KFVS12 building is named in her honor.
Hildegarde served in various capacities in the following local organizations: American Heart Association, Parent Teachers Association, Continuing Education Committee for the extension services, Cape Girardeau Business and Professional Women serving as president and director.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Friscia Banks and husband William T. Banks of Bedford, N.Y., Judith Bader Jones and husband Fowler C. Jones of Fairway, Kan.; three grandchildren, Anne Friscia of Santa Cruz, Calif., Christopher Edwards of Mission, Kan., Fowler C. Jones III and wife Sue of Overland Park, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Skyler Jones and Leah Jones of Overland Park; and a nephew, William Bendl of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or St. James AME Church.
