SIKESTON -- Hezzie Lee Bowden, 83, of Sikeston died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born March 22, 1915, in Gregory, Ark., daughter of John Artis and Betty Banks Bowden. She and Walter Bowden Sr. were married in 1939. He died Oct. 25, 1975...

SIKESTON -- Hezzie Lee Bowden, 83, of Sikeston died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born March 22, 1915, in Gregory, Ark., daughter of John Artis and Betty Banks Bowden. She and Walter Bowden Sr. were married in 1939. He died Oct. 25, 1975.

Bowden was a member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church and had served on its usher board.

Survivors include four sons, Melvin, Troy and Roy Bowden of St. Louis, Walter Bowden Jr. of Sikeston; three daughters, Mamie Lewis, Ophalia Carter and Rose Barkely of St. Louis; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.

Friends may call at Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Travelers Rest Church, with the Rev. Sylvester Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset of Memories Cemetery.
