Hermina Alvina Frank Westrich, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at her home.
Hermina was born Feb. 27, 1933, the daughter of John and Amanda Springer Frank of Cape Girardeau. She and Leon August Westrich were married Oct. 21, 1950. After 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death Dec. 28, 2000.
Hermina applied her sewing skills at International Shoe factory and Lowenbaum dress factory, and then retired from Procter & Gamble in 1995 after 20 years of service.
As a talented seamstress, she created many clothing items for the family, as well as items for the home. She enjoyed crafts and shared those items with others. After retirement, she volunteered at St. Mary Cathedral as one of the quilting ladies and with church bulletins. She belonged to the Council of Catholic Women, and her food cakes were appreciated at CCW bake sales. Many family members and friends benefited from the beautiful quilts she created, which are cherished by the recipients. She had a love of babies — so she also created baby quilts, afghans, layette sets for family and friends and as donated gifts. Cooking special meals for the family was joy for her.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (David "Skip") Heisserer of Cape Girardeau, Judy (Brent) Spaeth of Southlake, Texas, and Carolyn Westrich of Cape Girardeau; and two sons, Thomas (Sharon) Westrich of White Plains, New York, and Dr. David (Mary) Westrich of Cape Girardeau.
