PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Herbert A. "Whitey" Wengert, 83, of Perryville died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 17, 1924, at St. Mary, Mo., son of Martin and Josephine Brieg Wengert. He and Emogene Riney were married Aug. 26, 1950, at Lithium, Mo.
Wengert worked at Prince Gardner 28 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at St. Mary, VFW Post 2210 in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Wengert and Brenda Lorenz of Perryville; six sons, Gary, Michael, Richard and Jim Wengert, all of Perryville, Kenneth Wengert of Monett, Mo., Alan Wengert of Jackson; a sister, Edna Donze of St. Mary; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be at Miller Family Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A VFW service will be held at 7 tonight. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Mary, with the Rev. Richard Kasznel officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 2210.
