ALTENBURG, Mo. -- Herbert E. Schmidt, 86, of Altenburg died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 17, 1920, at Wittenberg, Mo., son of Immanuel L. and Bertha Mueller Schmidt. He and Melba N. Mousie were married Nov. 5, 1950. She died Nov. 24, 1984.
Schmidt was a past owner/operator of M.H. Upholstery. He was a member and former trustee of Trinity Lutheran Church. He had been a lumber stacker at East Perry Lumber Co., Scrollsaw Woodworking Hobbist, and former truck driver.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Jay Brandes of Uniontown, Mo.; two brothers, Richard Schmidt of Oviedo, Fla., Rudolph Schmidt of Webster Groves, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, a half brother and a half sister.
Friends may call at Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:15 a.m.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steven Dressler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military service provided by American Legion Post 133.
