ANNA, Ill. -- Herbert W. Listen, 82, of Anna died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Ill. He was born Feb. 8, 1921, in St. Paul, Minn., son of Otto W. and Edith Irvine Listen. He and Eileen C. Curley were married Jan. 26, 1945, in Fort Sill, Okla...

ANNA, Ill. -- Herbert W. Listen, 82, of Anna died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Ill.

He was born Feb. 8, 1921, in St. Paul, Minn., son of Otto W. and Edith Irvine Listen. He and Eileen C. Curley were married Jan. 26, 1945, in Fort Sill, Okla.

Listen was a labor relations specialist primarily with Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1983 with 38 years of service. He served two years on the National Railway Adjustment Board. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna.

A veteran of World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Philippines.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Listen of Grand Rapids, Mich., William Listen of Murphysboro, Ill.; a daughter, Joan Listen of Cobden, Ill.; a sister, Edwina Murray of Hazel Crest, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church, with Msgr. Tom Miller officiating. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery at Creal Springs, Ill.
