BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Henry White, 95, of Bartlesville died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center in Bartlesville.

He was born Feb. 27, 1903, at Old Day County in Oklahoma Territory, son of James Miles and Effie Donaldson White.

On Nov. 27, 1928, he married Ruth Ann Harrison at Liberal, Kan. She survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Richard H. White Jr. of Fort Washington, Md., the Rev. Miles H. White of Cape Girardeau, and Robert P. White of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann George of Grenada Hills, Calif.; two brothers, Robert White of Pahrump, Nev., and Crockett White of Fort Lyons, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

As a boy, he moved with his family to Alpine, Texas, and later to Erick, Okla., where he graduated from high school and was captain of the high school basketball team.

He received a bachelor's degree in commerce, business and mathematics from Panhandle A&M College at Goodwell, Okla., in 1929. While attending Panhandle A&M College, he was active in sports, lettering in football, basketball and track. He was captain of the college basketball team.

He received his master's degree in industrial education with a minor in distributive education from Oklahoma State University in 1943.

After his marriage, he and his wife made their home at Cooperton, Okla., where they both taught school and he coached a state champion basketball team.

They later taught at Gotebo, Okla., and then moved to Hobart, Okla., where he was dean of the junior college for four years. He then moved to Mangum, Okla., where he taught and supervised war-training programs.

In 1953, he moved to Bartlesville and taught vocational education in the Bartlesville school system until his retirement in 1968. Following his retirement, he became an expert in restoring and selling antiques and for conducting a antique sale each October.

He was also dean of Kiowa County, Okla., Junior College, appointed War Finance Chairman by the U.S. Treasury Department for Greer County, Okla., elected charter president for Distributive Education Teachers. He was past president of the Mangum Rotary Club, past president of Washington County Retired Teachers, a member of the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Legislative Committee for three years, vice president of Oklahoma Trade and Industrial Education Association, delegate to Oklahoma Classroom Teachers Southwest District, and published in "Business Education World" in 1943.

He was longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, with the Rev. Chuck Cowell officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville.
