Henry Field Tipton Sr., 85, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1915, at Bastrop, La., son of James Wade and Annie Montgomery Tipton. He and Mildred Hawkins were married Sept. 15, 1940, at Haywood County, Tenn.

He was a member of the Bartlett United Methodist Church in Bartlett, Tenn., and a 32nd Degree Mason. Tipton served in the Army from Oct. 16, 1943, to Jan. 11, 1946. He had been a volunteer at a Memphis, Tenn., hospital for 10 years. He had worked in the auto industry as a finance representative, and later owned a Ford dealership in Caruthersville, Mo. He worked for Atlas Plastics in Cape Girardeau, and then moved to Memphis, where he owned his own woodworking business. He later returned to Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Henry Tipton Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Dr. Richard Tipton of Gordonville, Mo.; two brothers, Jack Tipton of Caruthersville, Mo., and Bill Tipton of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Annie Laurie Wrather of Portageville, Mo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Revs. Anselm Williams and Bob Towner will officiate, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.Veterans services will be conducted by VFW Post 3838.
