Henry "Hank" Scheu Jr., 88, of Springfield, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1919, in St. Louis, son of Henry J. and Frances Mueller Scheu Sr. He married Rita L. O'Rourke July 31, 1943. She died in 2000.

Scheu was a radar crewman with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Good Conduct medals.

He attended Washington University in St. Louis for a year after his return from the service. He began working for Heil Packing Co. in 1937, then in 1964 transferred to Cape Girardeau where he worked for Central Foods as office manager and treasurer.

Scheu was a member of Church of the Little Flower in Springfield.

Survivors include a son, Dr. James H. Scheu of St. Charles, Mo.; two daughters, Marjorie Gladish of Springfield, Molly Turner of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home in Springfield.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Church of the Little Flower, with the Rev. Michael Haag officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
