Henry Charles Kirn, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles and Gertrude Warnaka Kirn. He and Isabel A. Stricker were married July 11, 1953, at Charleston, Mo.
Kirn was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School. He was a clerk at the Cape Girardeau Post Office 36 years, retiring in August 1991.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, VFW Post 3838, 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1111, and Eagles Aerie 3775.
Kirn served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War, and was involved in the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. He was awarded three Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Kirn of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Susan Ely of Cape Girardeau; a brother, August Kirn of Paducah, Ky.; a sister, Gertrude Kirn of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers will be at 5, and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Charles Prost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 3838.
