Henrietta Gilles, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born May 5, 1945, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Roy and Minnie Wood Meyers. She and Jerry Gilles were married Feb. 15, 1970, in Cape Girardeau.

Henrietta was born in St. Louis, but grew up in Bell City, Missouri, graduating Bell City High School in 1963. She obtained an associate in nursing and began working as a certified nurse assistant at Barnes Hospital before embarking on a 42 -year career at Southeast Hospital, retiring in 2009. She was very active in the Women's Prayer Group at Mount Auburn Christian Church, where she volunteered to help wherever needed.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry Gilles; daughter, Kym (Jason) Welker of Cape Girardeau; son, Greg Gilles of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Lauren Hicks, Collin (Chelsi) Welker, Jason Welker, Dylan (Beth) Sample, Sierra (Cole) Masters and Kamryn Sample; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Meyers.

A private memorial family service will be held Feb. 26.

Donations may be made in Henrietta's honor to Mount Auburn Christian Church, 930 N. Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.

Cremation was accorded by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
