Helene Clara Kaltwasser, 91, of Fort Wayne, Ind., died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at her home.

She was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Olney, Texas, daughter of Charles and Frieda Dietrich Kunkel. She and the Rev. A. O. Kaltwasser were married May 20, 1934, in Olney.

Mrs. Kaltwasser was formerly of Altenburg, Mo. She was a 1963 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, and received a master's degree in education from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne. She taught in the elementary school in Ossian, Ind.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, the Altar Guild, and as a pastor's wife was active in volunteering in various church programs, especially her delicate handwork in making church banners and altar cloths. She also did volunteer work at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Survivors include her husband of almost 71 years, the Rev. A.O. Kaltwasser of Fort Wayne; a son, Wayne A. Kaltwasser of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Jeanell J. (James) Peek of Barrington, Ill., Dorthylyn J. (William C.) Evans of Cape Girardeau, Lanette R. (Rev. Earl) Schmidt of Ada, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and four brothers.

The service was held May 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Burial was in Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals in Fort Wayne was in charge of arrangements.
