BERTRAND, Mo. -- Helen Groves Sweet, 71, of Bertrand died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the Bertrand Nursing Facility. She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Red Bay, Ala., daughter of Floyd and Lillie Bell George. She was first married to A.J. Groves Jr., who died in 1973. She then married James Sweet, who died in 1989...

BERTRAND, Mo. -- Helen Groves Sweet, 71, of Bertrand died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the Bertrand Nursing Facility.

She was born Nov. 20, 1930, in Red Bay, Ala., daughter of Floyd and Lillie Bell George. She was first married to A.J. Groves Jr., who died in 1973. She then married James Sweet, who died in 1989.

She lived in Bertrand most of her life and attended the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Arnold Groves and Jeffrey Allen Groves of Bertrand; three daughters, Karen Vaughn of Durham, N.C., Janet Sheriff of Sikeston, Mo., and Martha Ann Waters of East Prairie, Mo.; two brothers, Doyle George of Durham, N.C., and Riley George of Sikeston; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., until service time.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Bill Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
