Helen Marguerite Marie Swan, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born July 26, 1937, in Missouri, daughter of Wilson and Pearlie Mae Mitchell. She and Fred Irvin C. Swan were married in October 1956. He died in 1972.

Swan had worked at Ralph Edwards Sportswear and was a companion to Mary P. Harrison and the Brinkopf family many years. She was a member of Futrell Memorial Church of God in Christ in Jackson, and held various offices.

Survivors include five sons, Lawrence Swan of Garland, Texas, Fred Swan of Jefferson, Ga., David and Charles Swan of Cape Girardeau, Stephen Swan of St. Louis; four daughters, Helen Baker and Athora Evans of Cape Girardeau, Patricia Dixon and Margaret Bird of St. Louis.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Wade of Jackson, Alfreda Bird of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Bobby Mitchell of Jackson, Raymond Mitchell of Cape Girardeau; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Friends may call at Futrell Church from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greater Dimension Church of God in Christ, with William Bird Sr. and Ollie Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.

Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
