Helen L. Summers, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Lutheran Home. She was born July 29, 1918, in Bloomfield, Mo., to Henry M. and Alberta E. Wright. She and Everett Summers were married Dec. 7, 1938. They had been married nearly 42 years when he passed away Nov. 25, 1980...

Helen L. Summers, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born July 29, 1918, in Bloomfield, Mo., to Henry M. and Alberta E. Wright. She and Everett Summers were married Dec. 7, 1938. They had been married nearly 42 years when he passed away Nov. 25, 1980.

Helen worked many years at the former Buckner-Ragsdale and the former Hecht's stores in Cape Girardeau. She retired in her mid-70s in 1992. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and shopping.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

After suffering a stroke last year, Helen moved to the Lutheran Home and enjoyed many activities there.

Helen was proud that she was able to raise her great-nephew, Bobby Blackwell, and a great-great-niece, Jessica Blackwell, both of Jackson. Many other nephews and nieces also survive.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children, two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

The family suggests memorials be made to McCombs Funeral Home to apply toward the purchase of Helen's bronze marker.
