Helen Murray, 98, passed away on July 4, 2024, in Hillsboro. A former resident of Jackson and Cape Girardeau, Helen was a dedicated community member and retired from the Cape Girardeau School District.

HILLSBORO — Helen Murray, 98, of Hillsboro, formerly of Jackson and Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at her home.

She was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Cape Girardeau to Oral and Jessie Oguin Cummings. Helen married Delmar Murray on July 1, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 2010.

Helen was a member of the Iona Baptist Church in Oriole. In 2010, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church of De Soto.

She was employed by International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau. She worked and retired from Cape Girardeau Public Schools in the cafeteria, where she managed and planned all school lunches.

Loving survivors include a daughter- in-law, Sherry Murray of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Josh (Shannon) Murray of Hillsboro, Matt (Kathy) Murray of Hillsboro, Teresa (Chad) Heady of Bismark and Angie Taylor of Hillsboro; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three nieces, Sandy (Joe) Egertson, Marcia (Gene) Stone and Sue (Charles) Thiele.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Michael Murray; grandson, David Taylor; brother, Glen (Louise) Cummings; two sisters, Ruby Edmond and Jane (Harold) Hoffmeister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Following the visitation, Rev. Donny Ford will conduct a graveside service at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
