ARNOLD -- Helen Jane Shelby Lycans, 82, of Arnold died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at the Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Chesterfield. She was born Nov. 1, 1914, in East Prairie, daughter of William "Ted" and Blanche Manuel Shelby. She worked in civil service during World War II, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from State University and a master's degree in elementary education from Washington University in St. Louis...

ARNOLD -- Helen Jane Shelby Lycans, 82, of Arnold died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at the Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Chesterfield.

She was born Nov. 1, 1914, in East Prairie, daughter of William "Ted" and Blanche Manuel Shelby. She worked in civil service during World War II, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from State University and a master's degree in elementary education from Washington University in St. Louis.

She taught school for 32 years in East Prairie, Sikeston, Locust Grove and the University City schools. She was a member of MSTA, NRTA, Kappa Delta Phi and the First Christian Church in East Prairie.

She is survived by a daughter, Shelby Thomson of Arnold, and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Brother Martin Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
