Helen E. Estes, 69, of Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1991, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born July 13, 1922, at Perkins, daughter of Sheldon "Dutch" and Viola Rauls Phelps. She married C. Mack Estes.
Estes attended Delta schools, and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1973. She retired in 1984 from Cape Girardeau Public Schools, where she was a teacher for home-bound students.
She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary to Post 63, and vice president of the Missouri Veterans' Home Board of Directors.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Glenn Merritts of St. Louis; a daughter, Mary Gieselmann of St. Louis; her mother, Viola Rhodes of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Robert Phelps of Harvester, and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Church. The Rev. Louis Launhardt will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
