Helen Mildred Bertrand, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Friedenburg, Mo., daughter of Lonnie Henry and Velma Farrar Mehner. She and A.W. "Bill" Bertrand were married Sept. 28, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. He died Jan. 12, 1983.
Bertrand was a graduate of Central High School and Cape Girardeau Beauty College. She owned and operated Bertrand Beauty Shop 50 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Ladies and Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 3838 and was president in 1958.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Connie Bertrand of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Betty Glueck of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Karla Mehner of Crestview, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kevin Herron of Virginia Beach, Va., Amy Bertrand Sirimaturos of St. Charles, Mo., Laura Costello of Thompsonville, Ill., Jennifer Haag of St. Louis; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Herron; a brother, Raymond Mehner; a sister, Nelda Bondurant; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Renee.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
