Hazel Morgan Proveaux, 98, of Cape Girardeau died at 12:37 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, in the Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Ware, Illinois, the daughter of Charles P. and Lela (Frick) Morgan. She married Aldean A. Proveaux in 1947 in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1974.
Hazel is survived by her two nieces, Linda McCloud of Anna, Illinois, and Paula Morgan of Jonesboro, Illinois; three nephews, Randy Morgan of McClure, Illinois, and Mike Morgan and Van Allen Morgan, both of Jonesboro; many great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aldean A. Proveaux; two sisters, Delphia Morgan and Edna McCloud; and two brothers, Paul Morgan and Winstead Morgan.
Hazel was a member of the Cape Bible Chapel and a member of the Eastern Star.
During World War II, she worked in an artillery factory in St. Louis. She went on to get her cosmetology certificate and graduated from Southern Illinois University.
She later owned and operated Hazel's Cut and Curl in Cape Girardeau for over 50 years.
Hazel was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed sewing and making many of her own clothes.
Funeral service for Hazel Morgan Proveaux will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Randy Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
