Hattie Bernice Walker, 95, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at her home. She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Bollinger County, Missouri, to the late John and Vesty Ionia Oldham Blanken. She and Loy Welker were married Sept. 28, 1940, and he was killed in France during World War II on Jan. 31, 1945. She later married Melvin Leon Walker on March 26, 1946, and he passed away Jan. 23, 1998...

Hattie Bernice Walker, 95, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at her home.

She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Bollinger County, Missouri, to the late John and Vesty Ionia Oldham Blanken. She and Loy Welker were married Sept. 28, 1940, and he was killed in France during World War II on Jan. 31, 1945. She later married Melvin Leon Walker on March 26, 1946, and he passed away Jan. 23, 1998.

Before Hattie was married, she watched over young children in their homes. Later, she worked at the International Shoe Co. in Jackson and was a cook at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson.

Survivors include sons, Loy (Mary Kay) Welker of Jackson and Larry Walker of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Judy Walker of Jackson; five grandchildren, Scott (Linda) Welker, Stephen (Angie) Welker, Andrea K. Welker, Dia Welker and John (Shana) Wondel; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Loy Welker; second husband, Melvin Walker; and brother, Johnny Blanken.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Hahn Chapel in Marble Hill, Missouri.
