Lewis Harvey Hardy, 97, of Jackson died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Kingman, Kansas, to Lewis Hon and Alma Bernice Winfrey Hardy. He and Wanda Imogene Faries were married Dec. 24, 1943. She died Sept. 10, 2006...

Lewis Harvey Hardy, 97, of Jackson died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Kingman, Kansas, to Lewis Hon and Alma Bernice Winfrey Hardy. He and Wanda Imogene Faries were married Dec. 24, 1943. She died Sept. 10, 2006.

Harvey served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church near Morehouse, Missouri. He had been attending Connection Point Church in Jackson.

He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns Post 158 of the American Legion of Jackson.

Harvey was an engineer for the Natural Gas Pipeline of America for 34 years. He also worked for Gene Nitsch Home Improvements in Jackson on his days off.

After he retired from the gas company, Harvey worked at Jackson Bowling Lanes and later for Country Mart in Jackson for 18 years.

He loved to bowl and do woodworking. He and his wife also loved to travel and had been to all of the states.

He is survived by a son, Robert Hardy of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Pam Lange of Jackson, Boneda Alexander of Austin, Texas, and Beverly Hopkins of Lawton, Oklahoma; a sister, Bernice Bowles of Denver; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Harvey Ray Hardy; a brother, Francis Hardy; and two sisters, Verla and an infant.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris Vaught officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
