Harry Rust, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

He was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Cape Girardeau to Wayne and Eva Palmer Rust. He and Barbara Rose were married Aug. 8, 1954, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and received a certificate from the New York School of Interior Design.

He owned and operated Rust & Martin Inc. Under his leadership, Rust & Martin expanded into Paducah, Kentucky, and Columbia, Missouri. He decorated numerous private residences, offices, restaurants and banks in Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Colorado and Florida.

He was a former chairman of the board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, where he also served on the building committee. He was a member of the Lions Club in Cape Girardeau; a member of the board of directors and executive board of the National Home Furnishings Association; a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers; a professional member and member of the national board of directors of the Interior Design Society; and a board member of Amerifirst Bank. He received many national awards, such as the Pacesetting Award, "Chicago Market Dailey" in 1965-1966, Pacesetter Store and "House Beautiful" in 1987.

He was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Rust of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Stephen (Deshay) Rust, David Rust and Mike Rust; two brothers, Gary (Wendy) Rust of Cape Girardeau and Jim (Beverly) Rust of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Ashley Rust, Tanner (Shannon) Rust and Bailey (Eric) Lundstrom; and two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Ezra.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dave Conley and the Rev. Dr. Barry Winders officiating. Private burial will be at a later date at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church.
