KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Harry Russell "Russ" Huebel Jr. of Kingsville passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018.
He was born March 13, 1943, in Cape Girardeau to Harry Russell Huebel Sr. and Margaret Ann Neal Huebel.
He attended public schools in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. He earned his doctorate in American studies from Washington State University and taught history at Texas A&I University (later Texas A&M--Kingsville).
Russ' main interests revolved around sports, especially baseball and basketball. He once played on a traveling softball team and coached Little League baseball for many years as well as pee-wee basketball. He also enjoyed reading crime novels, shooting pool and befriending calico cats.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Huebel; his children, Anne Huebel (Jules Gehrke) of Midland, Michigan, and David Huebel (fiancee, Nicole Blair) of Austin, Texas; his brothers, Bruce Huebel of Bay City, Michigan, and Randy Huebel of Cape Girardeau; and his grandchildren, Margaret and Elizabeth.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents.
Instead of services, visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., in Kingsville.
