JACKSON -- Harry C. Vogt, 80, of Jackson died Saturday, May 18, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 19, 1915, in Friedheim, the son of Frederick and Marie Brune Vogt. He married Mary Beth Marlin on May 24, 1941.
Vogt graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1947 and did his postgraduate work at the University of Missouri. He was the Department of Agriculture's district director for south-central Missouri for 48 years and taught school in Daisy and Oak Ridge for eight years.
A veteran of World War II, Vogt served in the U.S. military from 1942-45, first in Normandy during the invasion and then in the German Theater.
He was past Rotary District 609 governor and a 47-year member of the Jackson Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, attending 18 national conventions and 46 Missouri conventions. He was a member and past president of the Missouri Farm Management and Rural Appraisers and the American Society of Farm Management and Rural Appraisers.
Vogt had served as a Boy Scout leader and counselor in Ellington for many years and currently was serving as chaplain of the American Legion in Jackson. He was a member of the VFW in Cape Girardeau.
Vogt was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim, then joined the Methodist Church in Ellington in 1949 and the New McKendree United Methodist Church in 1983, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Frederick Vogt of Jackson; a daughter, Harriett Martin of Jackson; a sister, Olga D. Aufmuth of Jackson; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, where there will be an American Legion service at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home, with the Revs. Adam Mueller and Don Covington officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with VFW graveside services.
