Harriet Anna Riley Savell, 92, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at her home. She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in New Madrid, Mo., daughter of Amos and Adele Riley. She graduated from Lilbourn High School and received a bachelor of science degree in home economics education from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Harriet Anna Riley Savell, 92, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at her home.

She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in New Madrid, Mo., daughter of Amos and Adele Riley. She graduated from Lilbourn High School and received a bachelor of science degree in home economics education from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She taught in Lilbourn, Mo., Chaffee, Mo., St. Charles, Mo., and Sikeston, Mo., for ten years.

On Dec. 27, 1948, she married Joel M. Savell in Lilbourn.

She was a member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in East Prairie, Mo. She was past president of the Woman's Improvement Club and past regent and 50-year member of the King's Highway Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her late husband were named Man & Woman of the Year in 1984, and in 1985 Harriet was again named Woman of the Year.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Gene Thresher of East Prairie, Mo., and Julia and Glen Harter of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Breanna and Alvaro Munoz of Cape Girardeau, Dominique Harter of Cape Girardeau and Brittany Thresher of East Prairie; and two great-grandchildren Camryn Munoz and Austin Munoz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Adele Riley; her sister, Betty Schmidt; and her husband, Joel Savell.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

The funeral will be immediately following at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Usher officiating. Burial will follow in the Sikeston Memorial Park Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Phil Stephens, Clint Stephens, Mike Hogan, Joe Sorrells and Steve Secoy.

The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Nelson United Methodist Church, 106 E. Washington St., East Prairie, MO 63845.
