Harold Meyr

Harold R. Meyr, 76, of Cape Girardeau was called home Thursday, March 1, 2007.

He was born March 23, 1930, in New Wells, son of Rudolph "Rudy" and Rose Haertling Meyr. He and Doloris Reisenbichler were married Sept. 23, 1950, at Pocahontas.

Harold was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and Metro Business College.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army April 10, 1951. While serving in the Korean Conflict, he attained the rank of sergeant first class May 17, 1952. He was honorably discharged Jan. 14, 1953.

In 1965 he established Harold Meyr Accounting Services. He was active in the business 42 years.

He was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel and served on various church boards. He also served on the Synodical Board of Stewardship, and was a member of the Missouri Society of Independent Accounts and VFW in Cape Girardeau.

He was a former member of Rotary West in Cape Girardeau, a member of the former Hilltoppers Square Dance Club, and served as treasurer of the Senior Center Board, where he often volunteered.

In his spare time Harold liked to garden, do carpentry work, fish and feed the birds. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doloris of Cape Girardeau; three sons, H.W. (Dianne) Meyr of Cape Girardeau, Rev. Ronald (Pam) Meyr of Viera, Fla., Rodney (Teresa) Meyr of Jackson; a daughter, Janet (Paul) Herzog of Palatine, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Herzog, Andrew (Rhonda) and Eric Meyr, Elizabeth Meyr, Ashley and Benjamin Meyr; and a sister, Leona Woodburn of New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vera.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and Sunday after 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating, followed by committal service at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Saxony Lutheran High School, Cape Girardeau Senior Center, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.
