Harold G. "Nud" Haas, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alvin and Alma Vandeven Haas. He and Mary Frances Fuerth were married June 6, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She died Dec. 17, 1976. He and Janice Thornton Rice were married May 20, 1989, in Cape Girardeau. She died Oct. 25, 1999...

Harold G. "Nud" Haas, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at his home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alvin and Alma Vandeven Haas. He and Mary Frances Fuerth were married June 6, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She died Dec. 17, 1976. He and Janice Thornton Rice were married May 20, 1989, in Cape Girardeau. She died Oct. 25, 1999.

Mr. Haas was a graduate of the University of Missouri. He was a teacher 26 years in the Cape Girardeau School District, and served on the school board from 1988 to 1990.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Cursillo, Elks and VFW Post 3127 in Chaffee, Mo., and 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Haas served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Etta Dunaway of Cape Girardeau; a son, Gregory Paul Haas of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Lucille Christoff of Cape Girardeau, Joan Lane of Festus, Mo.; a brother, Kenneth Haas of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren, Patrick Haas, Heather Haas, Andrew Dunaway, Jeff Dunaway, Mark Dunaway, Scott Dunaway, all of Cape Girardeau, Betsy Rice, Perry Rice, Michelle Neal and Jeannie Hanlon, all of Chaffee.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin "Bud" Haas and John Haas.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. A vigil service will be held at 4:30, and KC rosary at 7:30.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Charles Prost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church.
