Harlon Parnell

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Harlon E. Parnell, 83, of Chaffee, formerly of Scott City, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 28, 1926, at Denton, Mo., son of Eckless and Ethel Maude Willis Parnell. He and Ada E. Enlow were married Sept. 4, 1948.

Harlon retired from maintenance at Saveway Oil Co. in Scott City.

He was a seaman first class on the USS Hornet while serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael E. (Donna) Parnell of Quinby, S.C., Charles A. Parnell of Chaffee; a daughter, Pam (Keith) Sander of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Amie (Adam) Blanchard of St. Charles, Mo., Derrick Sander of Cape Girardeau, Jason (Silvia) Sander of Seoul, South Korea; four great-grandchildren, Madison Sander of Commerce, Mo., Ryan, Rachel and Sara Blanchard, all of St. Charles; and a sister, Marjorie Ferguson of Washington, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to service time Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ken Strong officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce.
