CHAFFEE -- Funeral for Harley Velmer Phillips of Algonquin, Ill., will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. The Rev. Bon Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.

Friends may call at the chapel after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Phillips, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.

He was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Lamar, Ark., son of Lee A. and Etta Pierce Phillips. He and Hettie Boley were married Nov. 18, 1939, in Clarksville, Ark.

Phillips had been a building contractor in Hoffman Estates, Ill. He moved to Algonquin in 1954 from Chaffee.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Coy Coonts of Cape Girardeau, Francis Danek and Rejeanna Slavik of Algonquin; two brothers, Vernon Phillips of Morley, Verlon Phillips of Murphysboro, Ill.; two sisters, Arzella Newell of Pekin, Ill., Izola Luttrell of Germantown, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and four brothers.
